Fall has arrived in the beautiful Ozarks, which means it’s harvest time for pumpkins and apples. Celebrate with the locals at an array of festivals coming soon. The galas are a wonderful way to learn about area culture and traditions.
Republic Pumpkin Daze
Pumpkin Daze, held in the nearby town of Republic on October 1, offers the opportunity to see some of the largest produce in the Ozarks. The event will also include food and live music along with arts and crafts. You’ll be able to talk with the artists as well as pick up gardening tips from the growers.
Herb Harvest Festival
On October 7 and 8, head over to the Ozark Folk Center State Park close to Branson for the Herb Harvest Festival. You can listen to lectures on herb growing and the history of herb horticulture, in addition to watching demonstrations of crafts such as basket weaving, blacksmithing and pottery making.
Apple Butter-Making Days
You may want to make a side trip to Mount Vernon on October 7 and 8 to attend Apple Butter-Making Days. You’ll enjoy sampling the delectable spread, watching a pet parade and participating in a pie-eating contest. The festivity will be held on the courthouse square.
