Silver Dollar City is known as the home of American craftsmanship for good reason. It’s a fantastic place to find diverse items, handcrafted by the over 100 resident artisans using time-tested techniques. Whether they’re creating candles or sweet treats, watching them work is fascinating and informative. With live demonstrations, guests of Silver Dollar City learn about what life was like before mass production, when quality and craftsmanship were the priority. Kids can watch glass being blown or leather being tooled and come away with a better appreciation for everyday objects.
From now until October 28th, Silver Dollar City is doing something special to celebrate not just its resident craftsmen, but ones from all over the country. The National Crafts and Cowboy Festival, features 125 visiting craftsmen demonstrating their unique talents for the public. You’ll see demonstrations of fiber and fabric arts, visual art, working with metals and stone, heritage crafts, and decorative items for both people and homes. There’s even a special emporium for Western-specific crafts such as horseshoe art, antler items, and Native American crafts.
Additionally, the festival’s Salute to the Great American Cowboy honors the cowboy tradition in our country with a slew of activities. Learn how wild mustangs are tamed or how chuck wagons made all that food over the fire. Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and an old-fashioned barn dance provide entertainment as well. You’re sure to find something to entertain the whole family.
